COUNTY MANAGER

The Board of County Commissioners of Bradford County, Florida is seeking an experienced and engaging leader to fill its vacant County Manager position.

Bradford County, Florida is a small, close-knit, rural county nestled in northeast Florida on U.S. Highway 301 between Gainesville and Jacksonville. With a population of approximately 28,000, and key industries of state and local government, trucking and logistics and agriculture, Bradford County is poised to grow and expand as Florida continues to develop.

The Board of County Commissioners employs approximately 150 full time employees and has an operational budget of approximately $70,000,000.00.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $100,000.00 to $125,000.00

JOB SUMMARY:

The County Manager is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners. The Board is comprised of five members who are elected by the citizens of Bradford County. The five members represent five districts and serve four year terms.

As the chief administrative officer for the County, the County Manager oversees all of the Board’s operations, departments and employees; providing a wide range of services including Agriculture, Building, Community Development, Fire Rescue, Library, Public Works – including Maintenance, Solid Waste and Transportation – Veterans Services and Zoning. The County Manager also coordinates the Board’s efforts with regard to pursuing and securing grants as well as promoting economic development.

The Board expects the County Manager to effectively administer its internal operations while also representing the Board’s interests within the local, regional and statewide community. This includes memberships in local civic organizations and participation in professional organizations and county advocacy groups.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree – with a master’s degree preferred – in public administration or a similar area of study and a minimum of five years’ experience as a county or city manager or as a deputy or assistant county or city manager.

The Board of County Commissioners is looking for an experienced administrator who has and will continue to demonstrate the leadership, integrity and people skills necessary to effectively manage the Board’s personnel and operations on a day-to-day basis while also working to effectively plan and strategize for future growth and development.

Applicants should have a background and/or experience with public finance and budgeting; experience successfully applying for and administering grants and grant programs; and specific background, experience and interest in promoting growth and economic development.

REVIEW PROCESS:

The Board of County Commissioners has engaged the services of the Florida Association of County Managers (FACM) to assist with the recruitment process for the County Manager position. Following receipt of application materials, FACM will review and screen the materials and present their findings to the Board for further review and interviews.
