This is a temporary, part-time mail clerk position:
- The Clerk I delivers and picks up City mail and interoffice mail to Departments.
- The Clerk I processes postage and accounts for postage costs.
- The Clerk I picks up and delivers from City of Gainesville Post Offices.
Other duties possible as stated in the job description below.
A current valid State of Florida Driver’s license is required for this role.
SUMMARY
This is entry-level clerical and staff support work of a routine nature.
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under close to general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its routine, non-complex nature and from lower classes by its scope of tasks and level of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Depending on the area of assignment:
Acts as a receptionist, answers phone and responds to inquiries, referring to non-routine information requests.
Provides staff support backup.
Maintains departmental calendars, including scheduling meetings.
Obtains needed supplies.
Collects, compiles, prepares, distributes and maintains regular reports, accounts, correspondence, forms, data, records and information.
Operates and helps maintain all office/postal machines, including computers, binders, paper cutters, meters and printers.
Receives, processes and distributes mail.
Opens and empties mail pouches and sacks and faces, cancels and ties mail.
Issues, receives and maintains vendor applications/lists.
Assists staff with the entry and evaluation of standard materials bids.
Performs cash reconciliation as needed.
Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma; and one (1) year of experience in clerical or routine maintenance of fiscal records; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Typing at a speed acceptable to departmental needs.
Work may require demonstrated proficiency in relevant software and basic computer skills.
